          Training

The Zeekoevlei Environmental Education Programme views the local community as integral to the survival of the park in general and the programme in specific.  To this end we run a training course twice a year to give unemployed local people skills and the chance to become field rangers.  They are then able to play a part in the education of the youth and earn something while doing so.

With the aid of a generous grant from The South African Breweries we will be able to offer an even more exiting training course and a certification ceremony.  We greatly appreciate this  partnership.

Trainees are required to volunteer their services on four camps as part of their training.  This gives management the opportunity to observe and evaluate them on the job so to speak.  After this voluntary period, they are employed on a camp by camp bases.

After one year of working on a camp by camp bases, they are considered for promotion to senior field rangers.  In this capacity, they assume full control of the camps and are also assigned administrative duties.  The senior field rangers are paid a retainer and a higher camp by camp rate.

The training programme is rather intense and includes all aspects of camp administration. These include the following
