Welcome to ZEEP… Thank you for checking out this web page which is loaded with information about what we actually do here at Zeekoevlei Environmental Education Programme. You will find out all about the sister sites, False Bay Ecology Park and ZEEP, and what it is you can do to contribute. There are comments from previous volunteers and lots of pictures that characterize what hard work has led to- a fantastic opportunity for local children to have fun whilst learning and for foreigners to grow in knowledge and experience. Mainly you will discover that coming to ZEEP will be nothing but a blast and will be the trip of a life time. Lucy In my opinion, probably the most enjoyable activity that we do as part of the camps is spending the night in the bush. I know this may sound very ‘Indiana Jones’ but let me tell you that is\t is very safe, quite secure from the wild animals but mainly lots and lots of fun!! There are cabin’s in which we sleep and flooring space which is perfect to use as a stage for the children’s concerts and obviously our outstanding solo performances…and of course to dance and sing together, songs like the classic "how funky is your chicken?!" Sleeping in the bush always brings the group closer together, there is lots of bonding where we all let go of inhibitions. The kids feel brave (despite the few screams about spiders) after sleeping in the wild; it is a big achievement for some. But at large the best part of the bush camp is being able to say that you have awoken to a beautiful sunrise, with the sound of hippo’s in the background, and a bunch of happy children who are still singing the songs from the night before and are not complaining about tiredness- now how often is one able to say that!!?

Was man beim ZEEP (Zeekoevlei Environmental Education Project) erwarten kann: Es war einmal…in einem wunderschoenen Land, in dem die Zeit etwas anders vergeht -schnell und langsam, und dann auch noch beides gleichzeitig- findet man den Zeekoevlei (Vlei = See). Eins der Haeuser um diesen See herum ist das Zeep-Gebaeude. Dort trifft sich vormittags das Team, mal vollstaendig, mal nicht, mal puenktlich, mal nicht (so genau wird das nicht genommen). Zu dieser Truppe gehoeren fest Angestellte, wie Mary, Mark, Justine und Bevan, und ein bunter Haufen Freiwilliger aus der ganzen Welt. Man wird herzlich aufgenommen und nach und nach bekommt man alles gezeigt. "Alles" ist schwer zu definieren – meistens weiss man, was man tagsueber macht, wenn es dann soweit ist. Das geht von Muellsammeln ueber Spielplatz bauen bis zu Anstreichen. Ausser wenn man ein Camp hat, da weiss man genau, was man zu tun hat. "Ein Camp" heisst folgendes: Es kommen regelmaessig, mindestens einmal pro Woche, Kindergruppen verschiedenen Alters, verschiedener Kulturen und Regionen zum Zeep, um dort zu campen. Die Camps dauern 3 Tage und zwei Naechte, und meistens sind zwei Freiwillige und zwei Angestellte die Ranger, die sich waehrend der ganzen Zeit um die Kinder kuemmern (d.h. Out-und Indoor-Spiele, Wanderungen durch das Naturreservoir, Dragonboating auf dem See…). Es gibt fuer diese drei Tage ein festes Programm, das auf alle Faelle sehr viel Spass macht!!! Eine Besonderheit ist das Bush-Camp, in dem man eine der beiden Naechte mit den Kindern verbringt ( ohne Strom, fliessend Wasser usw.in Holzheutten mitten im Busch schlafen – so stellt man sich Afrika doch vor J ). Waehrend der Arbeit und den Camps sieht man eine Menge vom Zeekoevlei Nature Reserve. Es gibt hier Hippos, Schlangen, Stacheltiere, ein Wildebeest (so was wie ein Gnu) und und und… Abends nach der Arbeit wird dann gern ab und zu gefeiert. Alle, die beim Zeep arbeiten, sind entweder jung oder jung geblieben, das ist eindeutig ein Vorteil! J Aber ich moechte euch ja nicht alles erzaehlen, ihr solltet selbst kommen und es euch ansehen!!! Also, wenn ihr gern draussen, mit Mensch & Tier arbeitet und ein Abenteuer und das Leben in einer anderen Welt erfahren wollt, seid ihr hier genau richtig. Das Zeep-Team freut sich auf jeden Freiwilligen!
